SKUNKED |
|
|
The "science" behind 'Skunked' recipes #1 and #2 is that skunk
essence is made of sulfur molecules. The materials in a couple of
the following recipes, when mixed together, form an akaline peroxide
that chemically changes the skunk essence into sulfonic acid, a
completely odorless chemical.
Reminder: mix the solution when you are ready to use it. Do
not store.
De-Skunking Tips
Mix 1 quart peroxide, ¼ cup baking soda, 2 tbsp
dishwashing detergent. Mix in bucket (do not store for
future use) and sponge on dog cleaning hit area first.
Keep out of eyes, ears, mouth – rinse well -
does not bleach fur. Double recipe for
size of dog. (Joanne)
Mix 1 bottle 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/8th
cup baking soda, ½ tsp of liquid
Dishwashing soap.
Easily applied if put in spray bottle. Put dog in tub, spray
liberally, wetting coat thoroughly and working solution into fur.
Make sure you get it all over the dog, including pads of paws. Rinse
well and the smell will be completely gone. Do not save any unused
solution as it is not stable and will not keep for any length of
time. These amounts are for a Doberman so you may have to adjust for
smaller dog or double recipe for a long coated dog. (Larralyn)

Wet down dog in tub or shower
with warm water. Use a very mild dish detergent such as Ivory to cut the
skunk oil, let it sit, then add a paste of baking soda all over the coat and rub it in –
it will flush out all the skunk oil – let it sit for 1 or 2 minutes then rinse well.
Final rinse – cider or white vinegar and again, massage it through the coat thoroughly
cutting more of the skunk oil. – a gentle
rinse of warm water. Sprinkle real
vanilla on your hands and rub it through the coat. (Carla)
-
Toothpaste – the real cheap plain white stuff. Squeeze the
whole tube into an
empty bottle and fill it with
HOT water – shake it up until its all mixed. Put it on the dog mostly on the ‘hit’
area. Leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse well. May repeat in a few days. (Debi)

Nature’s Miracle – De Skunk – or
Nature’s Stain and odor remover works great
for
pet laundry.
Hopefully no one will ever have
to use any of these,
but now you know – tomato juice does not work.
